    Why Naturopathy

    What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic Medicine is a health care profession that combines natural methods with modern science. Naturopathic Medical Doctors (NMDs) are trained to address ailments and bodily dysfunctions at the level of the body, mind, and spirit. NMDs concentrate on healing the whole patient by addressing the root cause of illness, balancing the vital force, and improving weakened body systems. Naturopathic care provides individualized therapies that are evidence-informed that start with the least invasive most effective approach in order to help facilitate the body’s innate ability to restore and sustain optimal health. NMD’s focus on lifestyle changes that is needed to thrive such as food, hydration, air, sleep, movement, and mentality. The belief of this medicine is that through education and the right conditions, the body will allow self-healing. In the state of Arizona, Naturopathic Medical Doctors are trained as primary care providers who diagnose, treat and manage patients with acute and chronic conditions, and care for all patients regardless of age, gender, or race. They are trained in a broad spectrum of modalities and therapies including nutrition, lifestyle, supplements, botanicals, homeopathy, constitutional hydrotherapy, pharmaceuticals, minor surgery, physical medicine, and acupuncture (although many of these therapies are limited in the state of Michigan). Naturopathic medicine is safe and cost-effective.

The six principles of Naturopathic Medicine are as follows:

First, Do No Harm – Naturopathic medicine is started with the gentlest yet effective approach to healing. NMDs provides options that are the least invasive and least toxic for each patient.

The Healing Power of Nature – Naturopathic medical doctors support and educate on the inherent healing power of the body.

Identify and Treat the Cause – When the body is struck with an ailment, symptoms are the message that something is wrong. Naturopathic medical doctors determine and treat the cause of illness, not just treat the cause of symptoms.

Treat the Whole Person – Naturopathic medical doctors do not treat the disease, they treat the whole patient, as it is recognized that the body is an integrated whole. They assess the many aspects of health as a whole which includes nutritional status, lifestyle, family medical history, genetics, environmental, and social factors.

Doctor as Teacher – A Naturopathic medical doctor’s role is to educate and encourage their patient to take responsibility for their own health. NMDs empower and motivate patients for healthful changes to attain optimal health.

Prevention – “Prevention is the best cure.” Naturopathic medicine promotes the focus on overall health, wellness, and disease prevention.

A bit of history on Naturopathic Medicine:

Naturopathic medicine originated as an organized profession in North American that dates back to European doctors in the 1600s and 1700s which incorporated herbal and traditional therapies. The term ‘naturopathy’ was coined by Dr. Benedict Lust who founded the American School of Naturopathy in New York in 1902. In the 1920s naturopathic practices were increasing across North America. After World War 2, the demand for naturopathic education declined as surgical and pharmaceutical therapies became in demand. There was a resurgence of naturopathic healing in the 1970s which brought naturopathic medicine back to where it is today. By public demand, natural therapies and root-cause based approaches continues to grow. As time progresses there will likely be an increase in insurance coverage, legislation recognition, and evidence-informed natural therapies.

    - Licensed Naturopathic Doctor in Arizona from Sonoran University of Health Sciences

    - BS in Chemistry from Purdue University

Hello! I am a licensed Naturopathic Doctor in the State of Arizona from Sonoran University of Health Sciences previously known as Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (SCNM). I was the class secretary in the Student Government Association, Secretary of Applied Kinesiology, a pharmacology TA, 2021 class commencement speaker, and worked in sterile compounding for nutritional intravenous therapy at SCNM.

In Fort Wayne, Indiana I completed an Associate of Science in Chemistry and Pre-Pharmacy from Saint Francis University and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Purdue University. I originally planned to become a pharmacist and worked as a pharmacy technician in retail, long-term care, and hospital pharmacies with additional experience in sterile and non-sterile compounding.

I worked as adjunct faculty in multiple technical colleges teaching 8 different classes including Doses and Calculations of Medications, Intro to Pharmacology, Pharmacology I & II, Pharmacy Systems of Operations, Pharmacy Law, and more. After completion of my BS in Chemistry I worked as a Laboratory Technician in a forensics laboratory using ELISA to detect drugs of abuse. As I educated myself over time, I realized that my passion was no longer in pharmacology but in the innate ability for the body to heal itself. During my free time I spent countless hours figuring out a way how to help patients attain optimal health using alternative methods. I began to teach myself about Naturopathic Medicine from The Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine by Murray and Pizzorno and realized I could obtain a medical degree as a Naturopathic Doctor which aligned with my passion and dreams to teach others the benefits of healing naturally. I have been fascinated with the science behind holistic health since childhood and the changes in my career path began immediately after falling upon a Naturopathic Medical School, that I never knew existed. Now here I am, with the goal to help as many people as possible!

Ultimately, I am here for YOU! I applaud you for taking the steps in pursuit of a natural healing journey! I once heard that if you are on a journey to heal yourself naturally, you are a good person, because anyone who takes the time to heal themselves in all dimensions (hence the name, Dimensional Wellness), they become a positive person in all aspects of their lives in relation to themselves and others!

    Testimonials

“Dr. Hamilton was an absolute godsend after a Dysport injection gone wrong. I was not provided with any follow-up care. I didn't know what to do and still was not felling well after a hospital visit. Dr. Hamilton recommended a list of supplements that were inexpensive that had me feeling better within hours. It was a huge relief!”
